Flooding in the parish

WORTHEN WITH SHELVE PARISH COUNCIL

INFORMATION ON FLOODING AND WATERWAYS

If You Have Experienced Flooding

  • Report these issues to Shropshire Council through the ‘Fix My Street’ app.
  • Report any issues with sewers to Severn Trent Water at 0800 783 4444.
  • Report issues with rivers or pollution to the Environment Agency at 0800 80 70 60.
  • Support is available through Shropshire Council, in cooperation with the National Flood Forum. They can be contacted at 01299 403 055.

THE PARISH COUNCIL IS NOT THE LOCAL FLOOD AUTHORITY

  • The Parish Council has no authority relating to the maintenance of waterways. The Environment Agency is the main river management authority; other watercourses are the responsibility of Shropshire Council or the Internal Drainage Board.
  • No work can be undertaken on watercourses without permission. Any such work requires the appropriate permits, licences and permissions, and any work undertaken without such licenses could lead to a £40,000 fine and/or one year in prison.

Emergency Group

  • To cope with this or future crises, the Parish Council is establishing a group that will be dedicated to emergency response. We are providing replacement Floodsax for those used in the recent flooding, and will be purchasing other equipment to be stockpiled at key sites to be used in future emergency events. If you are interested in helping with this group, then please get in touch with us at [email protected]

All emergency services are trained rigorously to deal with a number if incidents, including flooding.     If there is an emergency and the roads are flooded the emergency services will attend to a 999 callout.

In addition, if the defibrillators are required to be used, then there are a number of local residents trained in the use of these devices who will be able to access them and the persons who require assistance.

We were among the best-prepared Parishes in the County. Once we are finished, we will be one of the best-prepared in the Country, but to do it, we will need your help. Your community will need your help.
